POST-CARE INSTRUCTIONS NEUROTOXIN
Neurotoxin treatments, such as Jeuveau, Botox, Xeomin and Daxxify are minimally invasive and have minimal downtime. Some people do experience bruising and/or swelling to injected areas following treatment.
There are some precautions you should take after receiving the injections, including:
- Avoid rubbing the treated area: Rubbing can cause the neurotoxin to spread to nearby areas and create complications.
- Avoid exposure to sunlight: The heat from the sun can promote flushing and increase your blood pressure, which can lead to bruising.
- Avoid alcohol: Alcohol can thin your blood, which can lead to bruising or bleeding.
- Avoid blood thinning medications: NSAIDs such as Aspirin, Motrin, Advil or Naproxen, which can also lead to bruising or bleeding.
- Avoid lying down for at least four hours following treatment.
- Avoid vigorous activity for at least 12-24 hours: It takes the toxin approximately 2 hours to bind to the nerve terminal to start its work, increased circulation may inadvertently move the botulinum toxin from where it was injected.
- Avoid excessive heat: This includes tanning, hot tubs/baths, or saunas.
- Use an ice pack: This can reduce swelling for the first 24–48 hours.
- Take acetaminophen (Tylenol): This can help with discomfort.
- Avoid makeup: Keep your skin clean and avoid makeup until the following day as earlier use may cause pustules.
- Please remember it usually takes 5-7 days for neurotoxin to take effect and 14 days to see the full effect. If touch-ups are needed, it is recommended to do so 14 days after initial treatment.
